Tapas Bridal Shower

The Tapas Bridal Shower is going on down stairs right now…  Loads of laughs can be heard here in my office on the second floor of your home. I love it when our house is filled with people and I can just sit and listen to the energy. I’ve know Emily Thiessen since she was 6 years old,  We first met when I cast her as a cow in the Christmas Children’s musical at my church. We made a quick friendship with her family that many years ago and now she is marring a great guy and they will live in Michigan. I Cooked most of last night till 2am and up this morning at 6:00am to finish it all off, such fun and a great blessing giving a gift like this to Emily and her family.  Not many Tapas recipes on AllRecipes. com so started doing research and came up with some on my own… the menu is:

• Ambers Turtle Gooey Butter Cake
• Deconstructed Apple Pie

WHAT’S IN A NAME?

Luke 11:42

But woe to you, Pharisees! for you tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought you to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

We should all look to our hearts, that they may be cleansed and new-created; and while we attend to the great things of the law and of the gospel, we must not neglect the smallest matter God has appointed. There is a point when a dish may become a spiritual experience, it could be during the preparation; serving or enjoying. I think that is the moment the Maker Of The Universe meets ingredients and accepts our tithe of mint, rue and all manner of herbs.  A little too deep for you?  Then you need to start cooking fresh and stop considering Ramen Noodle Soup and a Grilled Spam & Cheese sandwich a romantic dinner at home. lol!

Rue – This is a small garden plant, and is used as a medicine. It has a rosy flower, a bitter, penetrating taste, and a strong smell.

First, an attempt of a little taste of a bit of everything and less of anything than a bit and more.

WHAT’S IN A NAME?

 Matthew 5:13
Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savor, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out and be trodden under foot of men. [Salt has been used from time immemorial as an agent in the preservation of meats. The multitudes which heard Jesus were familiar with its use in curing fish. "The pickled fish of Galilee were known throughout the Roman world" (G. A. Smith). It is worthy of note that the salt of Palestine gathered from the marshes is not pure. Because of the foreign substances in it, it loses its savor and becomes insipid and useless, when exposed to the sun and air, or when permitted for any considerable time to come in contact with the ground; but pure salt does not lose its savor. The verse teaches that God's people keep the world from putrefaction and corruption. There was not salt enough in the antediluvian world to save it from the flood, in Sodom to save it from fire, nor in Canaan to preserve its people from destruction. It also teaches--as does experience--that a disciple may lose those qualities which make him salt.],

WHY I COOK…

At the end of my grade school experience at a performing arts elementary school my family moved. The closest thing to performing arts at this High School was a very good choir, which I joined immediately. Other classes on my schedule were French, Gym, and Algebra. Algebra…F – “We need to start you with the basics Mr. Edwards.” – so I went to beginning Math. Gym…F “Coach, I’m suppose to throw it to who, and is it suppose to be shaped like this?” – that was the first of Health class all 4 years. French…Incomplete “I don’t want to fail you dear, so please get out of this class now!” Home Economics is where I landed, and started this whole crazy fervor for food. When I graduated high school, I wrote a letter to a local chef who was well-known in our area. He took me on as his apprentice at 17 years old, and I stayed at the Windjammer Restaurant with him for 5 years. I then returned to work for him when he opened his own restaurant in Cincinnati, Chef Faulkner’s Supper Club. Thirty years ago I married my wife, and we moved to Chicago. Since then, I’ve had many jobs in Marketing, and now work in Real Estate, but food is still my passion and through cooking I find I can worship my living God. I’m hoping that through this blog I can share with you stories, money-saving tips, recipes, scripture and much more about who I am and why I cook.
